Loss or Breach of Personal Information

Guidance on Loss or Breach of Security of Personal or Sensitive General Information under the Custody or Control of the University of Alberta

Introduction

From time to time instances of loss or breach of security of personal information (as defined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act) or other sensitive general information maintained under the custody or control of the university may occur. This extends to personal or other sensitive general information that has been collected or compiled by the university as necessary for conducting the programs or activities of the university extending to research information collected by those performing research authorized by the university.

Loss of Information: Situations where personal or sensitive general information is misplaced or stolen and cannot be retrieved by the university.

Breach of Security: Situations where personal or sensitive general information has been accessed by unauthorized individuals and where possible tampering with the information has occurred.
